There are so many great events and programs happening in our Ward! Find all that have been submitted to my office at the bottom of this newsletter, or visit the events page on my website.
Due to the large size of our ward, and how active our community is, I receive many event submissions every day. I know that many organizations are currently starting to plan for events and programs coming up this Spring and Summer. This season can become very busy, so I encourage you to submit your event information to me as soon as possible.
To make the process easier for my team, and these organizations, I have added an “Event Submission” page to my website. By clicking this link, or visiting the events page on my website, you can directly fill out all the information needed and upload a poster or image. My team will then confirm your event, and it will be added to my website and will be run in my weekly newsletter every Friday until the event has occurred.

OTTAWA VALLEY FARM SHOW
On Tuesday morning, I took some time to see some of the wonderful exhibits on display at the Ottawa Farm Show, taking place at the EY Centre. I was there with the South Nation Conservation Authority, one of various CA’s attending.
It was so great to see so many faces at the Farm Show, the first year that the show has been back since the beginning of the pandemic. There were lots of great displays showing modern agricultural machinery, food & dairy farming products, and even local industrial and farming companies.
It was also nice to see the Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson, who was here for the opening ceremony and to check out some of the businesses and non-profits that create our rural economies.
ANNUAL IRISH TEA EVENT
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I was very happy to see so many of you on Tuesday afternoon at my Annual Irish Tea, including many from Carlsbad Springs, the newer part of our Ward!
So much energy, smiling, and happy faces all around. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. Thank you to both the Metcalfe and Greely Lions, as well as the Metcalfe and Greely volunteer Firefighters for serving and helping with the cleanup. We could not have done this on our own and I really appreciate everyone who helped out. Thank you also to the very talented Spencer Scarf who brought us beautiful Irish music once again.
Last but not least, thank you to my staff for their hard work with all the beautiful decorations, and all the time they spent making this event so successful.
SNC AGM
South Nation Conservations held their annual general meeting on Thursday, which included electing a new Chair and Vice Chair of the board, in accordance with their procedures set out by the board. I want to congratulate Chair Pierre Leroux and Vice-Chair Steve Densham on their re-election for their respective position. I am honoured to continue serving as Past Chair, and look forward to the work during this year of the board.
In terms of the budgetary reserve for SNC, there was a 2022 surplus of almost $394,000. The surplus is largely due to successful fundraising for land restoration and management of human resources. SNC has a stabilization reserve that assists for potential future financial problems, and that reserve had $193,198 to date. Today, the Board of Directors approved an allocation of an additional $150,000 from the 2022 surplus towards the stabilization reserve, bringing the balance to $343,198. I am glad to see that the 2022 surplus allows for an investment in future financial stability measures.
We also approved the 2022 SNC Annual Report, which will be circulated to various member municipalities including the City of Ottawa, local MPs and MPPs, and other Conservation Authorities. Some of the highlights from the 2022 Annual Report included:
- SNC’s 75th Anniversary and Safe Septic Inspection Program
- Over 152,000 recorded vistiors to SNC areas, site improvements at J Henry Tweed Conservation, and the work to clean up the 2022 May Derecho
- Uses of SNC lands including sustainable timber harvests, hunting and trapping programs, and maple syrup and agriculture uses
- Statistics on SNC’s Tree Planting Program, Clean Water Programs and Forest Stewardship, and Land Securement
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS & REGISTRATION
GET INVOLVED: CALL FOR APPLICANTS NOW OPEN FOR TEWIN COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (TCAC)
The Algonquins of Ontario and their partner, Taggart Group, are landowners of the Tewin Project (Tewin). Tewin is an exciting city-building project that will transform land in southeast Ottawa into a sustainable, connected, and complete community founded on Algonquin values. It is comprised of approximately 445 hectares of gross developable land that has recently been added to Ottawa’s Urban Boundary.
The purpose of the Tewin Community Advisory Committee (TCAC) is to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of information between the local community and the Tewin Project Team (the Algonquins of Ontario, their partner Taggart Group and the consulting team), local political representatives, City Council, and City of Ottawa staff.
The community planning and design process for Tewin is proposed to advance through an integrated Master Planning and Environmental Assessment process, underpinned by public consultation and engagement with stakeholders, including the Algonquins of Ontario.
The TCAC will be a vital part of the comprehensive planning process, which includes the preparation of a Community Design Plan, supporting technical studies, and a Secondary Plan. The TCAC’s role is to provide input and perspectives on the evolving plans, issue-specific matters determined by the Tewin Project Team, and materials to support engagement.
Interested parties are invited to submit a resume and letter of interest to info@tewin.ca by April 7, 2023.
The final composition of the TCAC will be determined in consultation with the Tewin Project Team and local Ward Councilors. The TCAC will aim to reflect a diversity of local interests.

ONE-TIME NON-RENEWABLE COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING
The City of Ottawa is inviting local not-for-profit organizations to apply for One-time Non-Renewable Project Funding. This funding is used to deliver time-limited or pilot projects that address the specified outlined priorities. bit.ly/40cQSut
Deadline for application: Thursday April 13, 2023, at 5 pm
• Maximum funding per agency: $30,000 for One-Year Project and $90,000 for Three-Year Project
• Funding available: $250,000
• Applicants are advised of the results: June 1, 2023

HYDRO ONE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION
Extreme weather events have become more frequent and intense lately, and Canada has certainly experienced its share of natural disasters in the last number of years. Most of the time, power outages will be over shortly after they begin, but when a major storm happens, a stable supply of electricity is jeopardized, and outages caused by severe weather can last much longer. Hydro One has a great blog post regarding power outages with lots of important information. Check it out here.

SEASONAL LOAD RESTRICTIONS FOR HEAVY VEHICLES SERVING OTTAWA
As of March 15, seasonal load restrictions are in effect.
Commercial vehicles or trailers with a gross vehicle weight in excess of five tonnes or 11,000 pounds per axle will be prohibited on roads where restriction signage is posted, and on all truck routes identified as restricted on the Urban Truck Routes and Rural Truck Routes lists. These restrictions also apply to all non-truck routes.

Il y a tellement de superbes événements qui se déroulent dans notre quartier! Vous trouverez tous les événements qui ont été soumis à mon bureau au bas de mon bulletin d'information, ou vous pouvez visiter la page des événements sur mon site Web.
En raison de la taille importante de notre quartier et de l'activité de notre communauté, je reçois chaque jour de nombreuses propositions d'événements. Je sais que de nombreuses organisations commencent à planifier des événements et des programmes pour le printemps et l'été. Cette saison peut être très chargée, c'est pourquoi je vous encourage à me soumettre les informations relatives à votre événement le plus tôt possible.
Pour faciliter la tâche de mon équipe et de ces organisations, j'ai ajouté une page "Soumission d'événements" à mon site web. EXPOSITION AGRICOLE DE LA VALLÉE DE L'OTTAWA
Mardi matin, j'ai pris le temps de voir quelques-unes des merveilleuses expositions présentées au Ottawa Farm Show, qui se tient au EY Centre. J'y étais avec le South Nation Conservation Authority, l'un des nombreux organismes de conservation présents.
C'était formidable de voir autant de visages à l'exposition agricole, la première année que l'exposition est de retour depuis le début de la pandémie. Il y avait beaucoup de superbes expositions montrant des machines agricoles modernes, des produits alimentaires et laitiers, et même des entreprises industrielles et agricoles locales.
Il était également plaisant de voir la ministre de l'agriculture, de l'alimentation et des affaires rurales, Lisa Thompson, qui était présente pour la cérémonie d'ouverture et pour visiter certaines des entreprises et des organisations à but non lucratif qui sont à l'origine de nos économies rurales.
MON ÉVÉNEMENT ANNUEL DU THÉ IRLANDAIS
Joyeuse fête de la Saint-Patrick!
J'ai été très heureuse de voir tant de monde mardi après-midi à mon thé irlandais annuel, y compris de nombreux habitants de Carlsbad Springs, la partie la plus récente de notre quartier!
Il y avait beaucoup d'énergie, de sourires et de visages heureux. C'était une excellente façon de passer l'après-midi. Merci aux Lions de Metcalfe et de Greely, ainsi qu'aux pompiers volontaires de Metcalfe et de Greely, qui ont servi et aidé au nettoyage. Nous n'aurions pas pu le faire seuls et j'apprécie vraiment tous ceux qui nous ont aidés. Merci également au très talentueux Spencer Scarf qui nous a offert une fois de plus de la magnifique musique irlandaise. Enfin et surtout, je remercie les membres de mon personnel pour leur travail acharné sur les magnifiques décorations et pour le temps qu'ils ont consacré à la réussite de cet événement. C'était un excellent temps!
ASSEMBLÉE GÉNÉRALE ANNUELLE DE LA SNC
L'assemblée générale annuelle de South Nation Conservations s'est tenue jeudi, au cours de laquelle un nouveau président et un nouveau vice-président ont été élus, conformément aux procédures établies par le conseil d'administration. Je tiens à féliciter le président Pierre Leroux et le vice-président Steve Densham pour leur réélection à leur poste respectif. Je suis honoré de continuer à servir en tant que président sortant et je me réjouis du travail que le conseil accomplira au cours de cette année.
En ce qui concerne la réserve budgétaire de SNC, un excédent de près de 394 000 dollars a été enregistré en 2022. Cet excédent est en grande partie dû au succès de la collecte de fonds pour la restauration des terres et à la gestion des ressources humaines. La SNC dispose d'une réserve de stabilisation qui l'aide à faire face à d'éventuels problèmes financiers futurs, et cette réserve s'élève à 193 198 dollars à ce jour. Aujourd'hui, le conseil d'administration a approuvé l'affectation d'un montant supplémentaire de 150 000 $ de l'excédent de 2022 à la réserve de stabilisation, ce qui porte le solde à 343 198 $. Je suis heureux de constater que l'excédent 2022 permet d'investir dans de futures mesures de stabilité financière.
Nous avons également approuvé le rapport annuel 2022 de SNC, qui sera distribué à diverses municipalités membres, dont la Ville d'Ottawa, aux députés fédéraux et provinciaux locaux et à d'autres offices de protection de la nature. Voici quelques-uns des points saillants du rapport annuel 2022:

PARTICIPEZ : L'APPEL À CANDIDATURES EST MAINTENANT OUVERT POUR LE COMITÉ CONSULTATIF COMMUNAUTAIRE DE TEWIN (TCAC)
Les Algonquins de l'Ontario et leur partenaire, le groupe Taggart, sont les propriétaires fonciers du projet Tewin (Tewin). Tewin est un projet passionnant de construction d'une ville qui transformera un terrain situé dans le sud-est d'Ottawa en une communauté durable, connectée et complète, fondée sur les valeurs algonquines. Il s'agit d'environ 445 hectares de terrains bruts aménageables qui ont récemment été ajoutés aux limites urbaines d'Ottawa.
Le Comité consultatif communautaire Tewin (TCAC) a été créé pour faciliter la collaboration et l'échange d'informations entre la communauté locale et l'équipe du projet Tewin (les Algonquins de l'Ontario, leur partenaire Taggart Group, et l'équipe de consultants), les représentants politiques locaux, le conseil municipal et le personnel de la Ville d'Ottawa.
Il est proposé que le processus de planification et de conception communautaire de Tewin progresse par le biais d'un plan directeur intégré et d'un processus d'évaluation environnementale, étayés par une consultation publique et un engagement avec les parties prenantes, y compris les Algonquins de l'Ontario.
Le TCAC sera un élément essentiel du processus de planification détaillée, qui comprend la préparation d'un plan de conception communautaire, d'études techniques complémentaires et d'un plan secondaire. Le rôle du TCAC est de fournir des commentaires et des points de vue sur les plans en cours d'élaboration, sur les questions spécifiques déterminées par l'équipe du projet Tewin et sur les documents destinés à soutenir l'engagement.
Les parties intéressées sont invitées à soumettre leur CV et une lettre d'intérêt à info@tewin.ca avant le 7 avril 2023.
La composition finale du TCAC sera déterminée en consultation avec l'équipe de projet Tewin et les conseillers de quartier locaux. Le TCAC s'efforcera de refléter la diversité des intérêts locaux.

La Ville d’Ottawa invite les organismes locaux à but non lucratif à présenter une demande de financement non renouvelable de projets communautaires. Ce financement est utilisé pour mettre en œuvre des projets pilotes ou à durée limitée qui répondent aux priorités définies. bit.ly/42mGLVF

INFORMATIONS SUR LA PRÉPARATION AUX SITUATIONS D'URGENCE D'HYDRO ONE
Les phénomènes météorologiques extrêmes sont devenus plus fréquents et plus intenses ces derniers temps, et le Canada a certainement connu sa part de catastrophes naturelles au cours des dernières années. La plupart du temps, les pannes d'électricité se terminent peu de temps après leur début, mais lorsqu'une tempête majeure se produit, un approvisionnement stable en électricité est mis en péril, et les pannes causées par le mauvais temps peuvent durer beaucoup plus longtemps. Hydro One a publié sur son blog un excellent article sur les pannes d'électricité qui contient de nombreuses informations importantes. Consultez-le ici.

RESTRICTIONS SAISONNIÈRES DE CHARGE POUR LES VÉHICULES LOURDS DESSERVANT OTTAWA
À partir du 15 mars, des restrictions de charge saisonnières sont en vigueur.
Les véhicules commerciaux et les remorques dont la masse totale en charge dépasse cinq (5) tonnes ou 11 000 livres par essieu seront interdits sur les routes où des restrictions en matière de charge sont affichées et sur tous les itinéraires des camions en secteur urbain et en secteur rural comportant une restriction. Ces restrictions valent également pour toutes les routes qui ne font pas partie des itinéraires des camions.
